Life happens in the uncomfortable.

Cut yourself some slack

Coming back from a holiday weekend is kind of a nightmare. I woke up this a.m. completely overwhelmed with all the things I needed to get done and a foreboding

Hey, I'm Bode.
Writer of musings.

Thanks for swinging by to check out my dogs, my ideas, my super fresh perspective and all the things that annoy me in life.

I can’t wait to share all the things you never knew you needed to know.

Have You Heard?

8THIRTYFOUR Integrated Communications.

We’re going to tell you your site is bad, your messaging is jargon, and stock photography from the 90s is burning our eyes. A trifold will not get you a client, and cold calling makes people hate you.

We do the kind of work people remember—and the kind of relationships built to last.

Gen X is feral, and I’m d*mn proud to be one, which is why we are out here Making Good Trouble as the great John Lewis would say. Get loud, get uncomfortable and speak up.

If I haven’t made it clear, @8thirtyfour stands with Minnesota, and it’s long past time to condemn, prosecute and remove this administration. And yes, that is RBG over my shoulder. Be like RBG, John Lewis and go follow @heathercoxrichardson
In case you’re wondering, growth is hard, which I shared with @incmagazine

5. Anticipate trends, plan for the worst

“When you invest in growth, your profitability will take a hit. You can’t simultaneously grow and post record profits, especially when you are a small business. This past year, I had to take a step back to build, which meant I wasn’t out there selling, and as a result, our revenue is down. It’s your responsibility as the business owner to anticipate trends, read the economy, and plan for the worst. It’s why we expanded our business to add a complementary offering, but it’s going to be a hefty lift and require additional capital to build. Growth is painful but worth the risk. You need to believe in yourself because no one else will.” — Kim Bode, 8THIRTYFOUR

I'm speaking on Big Deal Energy on February 10 at the @ama_wm luncheon. You should come, and if you are a student, young professional; this will be relevant to you.

Big Deal Energy (n.): The confidence of knowing exactly who you are, owning your quirks, and communicating your authentic self unapologetically.
It's time for Bode's Top 5 of 2025, it's like the @spotify Wrapped but not really at all. Full link in my story and bio and wherever else we put those things.

2025 was a dumpster fire of epic proportions, but it's also the year women recognized and owned their power and influence; because of that, I wouldn’t change a thing (ok, maybe a few things).

Here’s my recap and what I think it all means for 2026.

1. The Gray Wave: Women are quitting men cause we're tired, we have each other, and life is easier without you. Ouch.

2. I Beg Your F*cking Pardon: Women are ruining the workplace with competence, collaboration, and equality. How dare us.

3. The Price of Your Cowardice: Is America great again? Guess I haven't noticed between inflation, rising health care costs, and the sh*tty economy.

4. The Sisterhood. There is power in our gender; when we recognize and own it, we are unstoppable.

5. You Are the Face of Your Business. People buy from people, not logos. Embrace your personal brand, get out there, or watch your business suffer.
